Check out the free software and shareware available at hotfiles.com or download.com . Note we do not provide support for any web site editing software.

9. What is Uptime?
Uptime is literally what it means - it is the amount of time a web site is online throughout the entire month. The best uptime would be 100%, but because things can break, many hosts offer 99.9% uptime guarantees.

10. Why do some Web Hosting Companies offer UN-Limited (aka UN-metered services) and WebHostingHINTS.com DOES NOT?

In a few words, We do NOT offer ANY UN-Limited Services, for the protection of our clients.
WebHostingHINTS.com NEVER has, NOR NEVER WILL offer, UN-Limited services, for the SIMPLE reason that selling UN-Limited Service of X hosting, is NO MORE more than a MARKETING GIMMICK.

OUR CLIENTS Web Site PERFORMANCE is our number 1 KEY item for us at WebHostingHINTS.com

WebHostingHINTS.com has a numerous clients who's web site previously were hosted by companies that sold and some still do sell, UN-Limited Hosting Services.
The MAIN reason these clients MOVED to WebHostingHINTS.com is because their web site, at their previous UN-limited Services Hosting Company would not come up properly or show properly.

After ANALYSIS, each of these clients web site on their previous UN-Limited hosting service DID NOT WORK properly for different or same the reason. ALL ROOT in the ISSUE being that other customers abuse of UN-LImited services, distributing files for download, porn sites or free downloads, etc.
Or the Hosting Company OVER SELLING space on their web server(s).

MOST IMPORTANTLY, for YOU & YOUR Web Site, the BLAME GAME starts.
The UN-Limited hosting company support blaming your web site programmers.  AND the web site programmer blaming the UN-Limited hosting company.
In the MEANTIME, YOU, the CLIENT is caught between these parties.

  Therefore our suggestion to potential clients or our existing clients;
BEWARE of a Hosting Companies that offer UNlimited or UN-metered services.

WebHostingHINTS.com goal is ALWAYS to provide the best services to their CLIENTS.
We have no interest in wasting your time or money, with marketing ploys.

11. I am using too much bandwidth! Is there anyway for me to make it less?
In most cases, yes. You should first try to optimize the graphics on your web site.
How you optimize graphics on your web is using either JPG or GIF format and make the picture only as large as you need for your web page. You can also look to see if your image looks just as good with fewer colors. In most cases many JPEGs look just as good with a higher compression level.
Use a graphic editor like adobe photo shop or Corel Draw, etc to compress your image.

You should also analyze the HTML code of your site. Reason is, this makes sure your use relative paths, so that images are not downloaded more than one time. Remove any extra spacing and when linking to other pages, use relative paths and not absolute links.

Best of all, optimizing your page like this makes the user experience better as your site will load faster for them!

Another method of checking your web site, is using W3.org valuator, which is available for free use.

12. Can I host more than one web site within my account?
Absolutely! Each plan includes a certain number of add-on domains. Each add-on domain may be created in your control panel and will allow you to have a different page show up for a different domain name. This means you don't need a separate hosting account for more than one web site. Keep in mind that you will still only have one control panel to manage the different sites.
WebHostingHINTS.com different plans allow for more add-on domains and also more parked domains. You can find the details on the MAIN Plan page.

13. What exactly is space and bandwidth/data transfer?
Disk space is the size your web site pages take up space on the web computer server. Every single letter on your web site has to be stored somewhere on your web host's server. Each letter is one byte, and a megabyte is roughly one million bytes. HTML pages are usually very small, but it is the extra images, scripts, and even databases that can take up large amounts of disk space.

Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send in a month. Transfer is usually measured in gigabytes - billions of bytes. Once you go over your monthly limit, a host may either shut your site down for the remainder of the month or it can charge you 'overage.' This overcharge is usually averages about $2.00 (note others may charge as high as $5.00) per extra gigabyte of transfer, per month.

Domain Name Questions

14. What is a Domain Name?
A Domain name is an Internet Address that will uniquely identify your web site. You might have visited web sites such as http://WebHostingHINTS.com, http://www.Yahoo.com or http://www.Google.com, as a few examples of Domain names.

Having a Domain Name allows you, for example, to have an e-mail address such as joe@yourdomainname.com.

To see if a Domain Name your wish to use is available, and is not used by anybody else, please, visit InterNIC's WHOIS database, and type in the domain name of your choice. If there will be no match, you are can register that domain name, else you have to choose another one.

15. What is a subdomain?
Consider subdomains as an extension of your domain. For example, your site is "www.example.com". A subdomain would be "www.test.example.com".

Subdomains are usually treated as separate sites from the main domain site.

16. Do I have to change my domain if I get a new host?
No. Provided that the domain is registered in your name or your firm's name (as it should be), you can simply update your nameservers (from where you manage your domain names (Registrar)) to that of your new host or domain transfer.

17. Do you handle the domain registration process?
No we do not handle registering of domain names, "at this time".

Also GoDaddy.com has been around for some time, therefore fairly established Domain Registrar.
If you are transferring a domain to GoDaddy.com, you will need to handle the domain transfer yourself. Yet GoDaddy.com has online information how to contact your present registrar and what you need to do to move your domain to GoDaddy.com.

18. Can I use domain names from other countries (cc .nu To)?
We support almost all TLD Extensions. Even the new .biz, .per, .info, including .mobi, etc
Please email support if you need to know about a specific domain TLD Extension.

Steps are fairly simple;
